UFC 239 Fight Week Guide and Info!

It is International fight week! This is the biggest card of the year and this lineup of fights (at least on paper) does not disappoint. UFC 239 is stacked and will feature two title fights along with a host of top contenders through various weight divisions. Normally, there would be two or three different UFC events this week but this year it’s down to just one. The only other major UFC event that will take place during the week is the UFC Hall of Fame which will be held on Friday July 5th. The UFC Hall of Fame will be streaming on UFC Fight Pass at 10/7 p.m. ET/PT.  UFC 239 will take place on July 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.

The UFC 239 main event will showcase pound for pound great Jon Jones (24-1) as he takes on heavy-handed contender Thiago Santos (21-6). Santos has won his last 4 fights, 3 by KO/TKO, and earned 3 straight fight night bonuses. He has his worked cut out for him against the nearly undefeated powerhouse Jon Jones who’s only loss came by way of disqualification in a fight he was dominating. Jones is coming off a successful title defense unanimous decision win over Anthony Smith back in early March.

Jones vs Santos/Nunes vs Holm, UFC 239

The co-main event will feature two-division champion Amanda Nunes (17-4) who will put her UFC women’s bantamweight title on the line against perennial top contender Holly Holm (12-4). The always tough Holm had a dominate win at women’s featherweight against Megan Anderson in her last outing. Nunes’ last fight was also at women’s featherweight where she won by devastating knockout against the legend Cris Cyborg thereby winning the women’s featherweight title.

The other 3 fights on the main card will be a plethora of top contenders and top talent. There will be a gigantic welterweight fight between #4 ranked Jorge Masvidal (33-13) taking on the always outspoken and undefeated #5 ranked Ben Askren (19-0). UFC 239 will also spotlight former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold’s (16-4) light heavyweight debut against Jan Blachowicz (23-8). Lastly, the main card will open with the legendary Diego Sanchez (29-11) and always game Michael Chiesa (15-4) in a welterweight contest.
