Michelle Waterson and former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk have both verbally agreed to headline UFC on ESPN+ 19. The event is expected to take place on October 12th at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. The Chase Center will be the new home of the Golden State Warriors and will be the first time the UFC has come to this venue. Also, it will mark the first time the UFC has come back to the Bay Area since August 7, 2010 (UFC 117). The fight between Waterson and Jedrzejczyk will be contested at 115 pounds.
This will be Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s (15-3) first fight since losing to Valentina Shevchenko back in December for the UFC Women’s flyweight championship. Jedrzejczyk was dominate as the UFC women’s strawweight champion from 2015 to 2017, where she successfully defended the title 5 times. Joanna will look to get back to her winning ways after being on a bit of a downward skid as of late. She has loss 3 of her last 4 fights.
Michelle Waterson (17-6) has been on a hot streak with 3 wins in a row to Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig, and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, all by decision. Waterson is currently ranked #7 and has been vying for a title shot since her last victory through her social media accounts. A win over the former champ and the #4 ranked Jedrzejczyk just might do the trick. Michelle is 5-2 since joining the UFC with her only 2 losses coming from former champ Rose Namajunas and strawweight staple Tecia Torres.
This is a phenomenal contest with two very skilled fighters. It is a must watch fight and could potentially have title shot implications.
