Freire, Archuleta title fight set for Bellator tournament
Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (29-4) will face Juan “The Spaniard” Archuleta (23-1) for the Bellator featherweight title. This championship fight is set for September 28, 2019 at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Freire vs Archuleta will be one of the eight fights in the opening round of the Bellator featherweight tournament.
Pitbull is fresh off his 61 second TKO of Michael Chandler where he won the Bellator lightweight title. Freire is now the current Bellator featherweight and lightweight double champion. He is only the second fighter to hold two belts at the same time in Bellator history. Along with being the double champ, he is a two time featherweight champion, successfully defending the belt a grand total of four times. He is also on a four-fight win streak.
Archuleta is looking to upset the champion and continue his insane winning streak of 18 fights in a row. He has not loss since March of 2015 and is 5-0 with two knockouts since joining Bellator. Archuleta’s latest fight was a knockout win with one second left in the second round last month.
The featherweight tournament will be the third since the resurgence of Bellator tournaments in recent years. This is an intriguing match-up in an important tournament.
