Philadelphia Union Charity FIFA 19 2v2 Tournament

On Tuesday July 23, 2019, Union players, Philly stars, and Homegrown Philly Rappers came together with Union fans for a special night.

Star players, such as Alejandro Bedoya, Matt Freese, Auston Trusty, and Mark McKenzie, showed up each representing their own charities. Also, Ryan Howard (yes the Phillies star), Freeway (rapper), and Recohavoc (rapper) came together with the Union stars to play FIFA with random Union fans in their first annual 2v2 Charity Tournament on PS4.

These players and stars represented their own charity and were partnered with their own Union fans. Whichever star with the greatest score and most goals at the end got money donated to their charity.

First up was Mark McKenzie, representing Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, vs. Freeway, representing The National Kidney Foundation. Three 2v2 matches. Every match McKenzie and Freeway were each partnered with their own Union fan. At the conclusion of the three matches, it seemed McKenzie just dominated every single match possibly only giving up one goal.

Second, Ryan Howard, representing his Big Piece Foundation, vs Alejandro Bedoya, representing Blue Missions. Their first match ended with a close Ryan Howard victory. The next two matches were just pure domination by Bedoya, but was probably not enough to catch up to Mark McKenzie at the top.

Third, the last two matches were both mixed up. Matt Freese and Auston Trusty who had one match each against RecoHavoc. Matt Freese, representing Ronald McDonald House, played first against RecoHavoc, representing One Day At a Time Recovery Center. Freese won a nail biter in penalties and edged out RecoHavoc. Then Auston Trusty, representing a Kick Childhood Cancer patient, dominated against RecoHavoc in the last match.

The tourney concluded with Mark McKenzie scoring the most goals and winning money for the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. This was their first ever FIFA tournament for the community to join in. The Union even got Philly stars that more and more people would recognize. It was amazing to see the outreach from this team. In hand with sponsoring FIFA, this tournament was a testament to how MLS teams around the nation are working to help out the community around them.
