With one of the first transfer moves of the whole summer, Real Madrid strikes big. The long-time rumor over Eden Hazard has come true. The 28-year-old LW has joined Real Madrid for a massive fee of over $114 million dollars. The versatile winger brings everything you can possibly want, scoring, IQ, and strength. With Madrid’s offense being the weak part last year, this move was almost necessary for them in order to take back the world. Last year, he put up 21 goals and 17 assists leading Chelsea to a Europa League championship. He will fit in great at Madrid and expect to see lots of great plays from the winger as with so many great players, he will have some pressure taken off him.
Eden Hazard ($114M)

Luka Jovic ($68M)

To go along with Hazard in the attack, Madrid adds a young and talented striker as well. Jovic is a big striker who always keeps the mentality of scoring the ball. We saw this last year from him as in 48 games he put up a solid 27 goals. It will be interesting to see how much playing time the 21-year-old from Serbia will get. Benzema is still considered a leader of men but Madrid knows they have an upcoming star at striker.
Eder Militao ($57M)

One of the most interesting signings by this Madrid side. The 21-year-old CB from FC Porto has shown that he can definitely be a star-caliber defenseman in the future. With Varane and Ramos still leading that defense, it will be key for Militao to come in a play minutes while they get their rest here and there. Possibly, this is Madrid’s plan for the future as Ramos ages with the team. Nevertheless, Madrid got a solid young CB who will be very good in the coming years.
Ferland Mendy ($54M)

After showing great skill and potential last year in Lyon, Madrid took the risk and bought the 24-year-old LB. Mendy brings great speed to the outside and actually has a very similar style of play to present Madrid LB Marcelo. With Marcelo aging, this could be a great option to replace him. But for this upcoming year, I see both guys equally splitting time in that LB position. Mendy is definitely a starting-caliber player and could be a huge loss for Lyon.
Rodrygo ($51M)

This might be one of the most exciting signings of them all around the world. The 18-year-old phenom is headed to Madrid to show his potential. With comparison to Neymar, who was also bought from FC Santos, this kid has tons of pressure on his shoulders to be great. But he has shown that he has the skill to be a starting player in La Liga. In his first Madrid preseason game, he managed to score a goal from a stunning free-kick. The potential is there and this could be one of the next stars in the world. Madrid will likely give him limited playtime but at the age of 18, Rodrygo is one of the most expensive signings for someone this young, hopefully, it will be worth it for Madrid.
Summary
With an off-year last year, Madrid knew they need to make improvements to their team in order to get back to the top. They may have just done that as they assessed their need for more attackers. Their midfield is still the strongest in the world and even the defense improved this summer. Madrid has indeed stepped up to the top again, now it’s just time for them to show it this upcoming year.
