The UFC Villain- Colby Covington

Over the past year the UFC has gained many new personalities. Each one has a distinct impact on the game, whether for good or bad. The new star I am focusing on today is the highly patriotic Colby Covington. Colby has seen a rise to success in recent years with two huge wins on his resume. Headlining his career would be the unanimous decision against Rafael Dos Anjos in UFC 225.

Then there is his most recent win via unanimous decision on UFC at ESPN 5. On August 3rd Covington defeated “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler to secure a shot at the welterweight title. A tough fact to grasp for many is that, Colby Covington is a very good fighter. He has showcased that in the last year, thus sparking an attractive attitude.

Don’t Wait Up

Colby Covington has taken on this new villain role in the UFC. Rising through the rankings, eager for a title shot against Kamaru Usman. However Convington has recently expressed his ideal fights to have sometime during his career. You have to admire that he wants to stay active and he realizes that he’s in a great position.

For whatever reason if Usman isn’t available, Colby still wants fights planned. In a MMA Junkie interview, Covington has expressed interest in the Diaz’s, or Jorge Masvidal. He stated that the Diaz brothers is interesting for him. Colby recently said Nate Diaz “is barely a .500-level fighter”. Also that both brothers “have Stockton slaps but they ain’t ready for MAGA- bombs.”

Colby’s longtime friend Jorge Masvidal, was also on his list. Masvidal and Nate Diaz have a potential bout planned, but no official date. Jorge seems pretty covered at the moment, however would he dish Nate for Covington? These are some intriguing fights to make for the UFC. Whatever happens Colby believes it’s his time to make his mark in the game.

The First Ever

Colby Covington is looking to make a mark no one else has ever done. That mark is to become the first ever champ-champ-champ. During an interview with American Top Team, Covington talked about his future goals. The goals included taking out Kamaru Usman, welterweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, lightweight champion, and Robert Whittaker, middleweight champion.

Those enormous goals all add to Covington’s attractive attitude. He added, “I’m already breaking all of the history books.” So why stop here, right? While Covington’s goals aren’t impossible by no means. They will be quite high standards for “Chaos”.

Controversy Magnet

The attitude leads to spectacular showings, but also a load of controversy. Much of this has to do with his political views, rather than his fighting ability. Whether you stand with the 45th or not, being called by the president is a huge deal.

Back to UFC 241, Colby Covington was one of many stars in attendance. The event took place in Anaheim, California, and there was much that took place outside of the octagon. A big story being the ruckus that involved Colby and the other fighters. The mess got so huge that Dana White had to intervene. Dana said that they were yelling at Colby, calling them “kindergarten kids”.

Covington then fired back at the criticism saying, “It’s so pathetic, own up, and be a professional.” He then said, “Don’t get so salty, don’t get in your feelings just ‘cause I’m making more money than you. Just ‘cause your jealous I win every fight and you can’t stop me. Don’t be jealous of that.”

Colby seems to embrace the role of being the villain in the UFC. He seems to be arguably the most hated fighter in the game right now. However he doesn’t mind, his attitude seems to be, I’ve got the president on my side, and that’s all I need.
