This just happened: Weili Zhang defeats Jessica Andrade to become the UFC Strawweight champion. However that is far from the history that was made by the Beijing-born champion. With this win, Weili Zhang becomes the first ever Chinese fighter to obtain UFC gold. The 1.4 billion people hailing from China at long last have their champion. Lets take a look on how it went down from Shenzhen, China.

Monumental Performance

It took Zhang all of 42 seconds, to become an icon for Chinese MMA history. Jessica Andrade met her match as Zhang was able to get the clinch early in the fight. It was all but over from there as Zhang gained the Thai clinch position to land brutal knees that shocked Andrade. The strength of Zhang was able to overpower Andrade and keep her right where she wanted her.

When you think of all the Chinese fighters to come into the UFC, not one of them held gold. NOT UNTIL NOW! Zhang makes history and cements her legacy in not only UFC history, but in Chinese history as well. That concludes a monumental night for Zhang, and the whole country of China.
