On Monday night, the Boston Bruins played half of the New Jersey Devils for their first preseason game of the 2019-20 season. I say half of the Devils because part of their team was in New Jersey and the other half was in Montreal playing the Canadiens. Although not all of the Boston Bruins made the trip for this game either.
Boston Bruins vs New Jersey Devils – 9/16/2019
The Bruins started Kyle Keyser on goal. Despite the lack of organization
of both teams trying to find their groove again on the ice, Keyser made 17
saves through a period and a half of play. During second period, Coach Cassidy
switch goalies and had Dan Vladar play the remainder of the game.
First period results: 0-0
Moving on to second period. Boston started to come to life with
a goal from Oskar Steen. However, shortly after that and the B’s changing
goalies, Jack Hughes for New Jersey tied the score during a power play.
Second period results: 1-1
Final 20 minutes of this game seemed to be where all the players on both teams started to find their footing. Jesper Bratt of the Devils scored giving his team the lead. But then Boston came back with a goal from Chris Wagner tying things up.
With that the Devils said, “Oh really? I don’t think so!” and Connor Carrick sent a one timer right past Vladar, making the score 3-2. However, never give up on the men in black n gold! At 19:10, Jack Studnicka scored to tie the game once again! Bringing this first game of the preseason into OT!
Third period results: 3-3 going to overtime!
Unfortunately for Boston, Hughes scored the game winning goal,
but I give the B’s credit for forcing OT.
Final score: 4-3 Devils
Shots on Goal: Bruins – 17 Devils – 22
