This week will see the octagon travel to Mexico City for UFC Mexico, after Justin Gaethje (21-2) blew the roof of the Rogers Arena last week in Vancouver. Gaethje extended his streak of first-round knockouts to three after beating Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (36-13). After the win, Gaethje was quick to call for a fight with either Conor Mcgregor (21-4) or a title shot against whoever the champion is at the time. The two most likely candidates are Tony Ferguson (25-3) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0).

Main event

Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens face-off

The main event of the evening in Mexico city will see two exciting strikers meet in the UFC featherweight division. Yair Rodriguez (11-2) will return to the octagon on the back of a spectacular upwards elbow knockout victory over the Korean zombie (15-5), in the dying seconds of the final round. His opponent for UFC Mexico will come in the form of the hard-hitting, heavy-handed ‘Lil heathen’, Jeremy Stephens (28-16).

Stephens will enter the cage on a two-fight losing streak after being knocked out by the former champion Jose Aldo (28-5) and losing a decision to Zabit Magomedshapirov (17-1). Rodriguez will be looking to utilise his flashy striking to keep Stephens’ power at bay, although if Stephens does manage to connect you can’t help but think that it will be goodnight Irene.

Co-main event

Esparza and Grasso face-off

The Co-main event of the evening will see former UFC strawweight champion, Carla Esparza (14-6) take on rising star Alexa Grasso (11-2). Esparza bounced back from a two-fight losing streak by handing Virna Jandiroba (14-1) her first professional loss, with a decision victory in her last bout.

Grasso bounced back from a first-round submission loss to Tatianna Suarez (8-0) with an impressive decision victory over Karolina Kowlalkiewicz (12-5) in her last fight. Grasso has made huge leaps since her loss to Suarez although Esparza will be looking to wrestle her opponent into submission in Mexico.
