Alex DeBrincat Signs Extension

After seeing the Winnipeg Jets re-sign Patrik Laine (2 years, $13.5 Million) and the Toronto Maple Leafs re-sign Mitch Marner (6 years, $65 Million), the Blackhawks went to work. Just a day before they started their 2019-20 NHL Season, Stan Bowman thought it was time to re-sign one of their rising stars, Alex DeBrincat, to a three-year extension worth $19.2 million ($6.4 million AAV). The deal kicks in after the 2019-20 season.

If DeBrincat can continue to build off the success that he has had in his first two years, the contract could be a complete steal for the Blackhawks.

NHL Career

Alex DeBrincat was selected in the 2nd round (39th overall) of the 2016 NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. DeBrincat made the team out of training camp at the start of the 2017-18 NHL season. He made his NHL debut on October 5th, 2017, against the Pittsburgh Penguins. On October 10th, He scored his first career NHL goal against Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens. On November 27th, DeBrincat scored his first career hat trick against the Anaheim Ducks, Making him the 2nd youngest Blackhawk to score a hat trick, just behind Jeremy Roenick. In his first full year in the NHL, DeBrincat put up 52 points (28G, 24A) in 82 games played. During the 2018-19 NHL Season, he put up his career-best in terms of points, goals, and assists (41G,35A) and 76 points.

Now that DeBrincat’s extension is complete, Maybe a possible extension for Dylan Strome who is also another major RFA for the Blackhawks. Playing alongside Alex DeBrincat, Strome can focus on proving himself even more and showing the Blackhawks he deserves an extension. Since playing only 58 games with the Blackhawks last season, Strome put up 51 points (17G, 34A)

With Alex DeBrincat’s extension complete, and the 2019-20 NHL season starting, he can focus on his growth and goal scoring. I know my predictions are that he’ll score 40 this year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores 50.
