UFC 243 will see the Octagon travel to Melbourne Australia, following a successful debut in Copenhagen last week. UFC fans will be hoping that UFC 243 can live up to expectations after an exciting card last week.

Main event

The main event of UFC 243 will see Australia’s own Robert Whittaker (20-4) attempt to defend his middleweight crown against Kickboxing practitioner Israel Adesanya (17-0).

The champion will enter the octagon on an impressive nine-fight win streak. Which, includes two decision wins over Yoel Romero (13-4), and two KO wins over Ronald Souza (26-7) and Derek Brunson (20-7) in his last four fights. No signs of rust showed during Whittaker’s open workout, after a long lay-off.

Adesanya, on the other hand, will come into the fight with a perfect 17-0 record. Including a decision win, in what proved to be a fight of the year contender against Kevin Gastelum (16-4) during his last outing, which ultimately earned Adesanya his title shot. Adesanya has, as usual, sounded very confident in the build-up to his first full UFC title shot.

During this fight, Adesanya will aim to use his reach and sniper style striking to pick away at Whittaker from the outside. Whereas Whittaker will aim to close the distance and land his mean left hook. This fight between two of the top middleweights in the world will ultimately be decided by whoever implements their gameplan more effectively.

Co-main event

Iaquinta vs Hooker

The co-main event at UFC 243 will see two lightweight contenders, Al Iaquinta (14-5-1) and Dan Hooker (18-8), meet in the octagon.

Iaquinta will enter the bout hoping to bounce back from his recent decision loss against Donald Cerrone (36-13). After, defeating Kevin Lee (17-5), by decision for a second time, in his previous fight.

Whereas, Hooker will look to defend home soil and improve his win streak to two in a row. After, stopping James Vick (13-4) in the first round of his last fight.

A win for either fighter would put them possibly only one or two wins against top-ten opponents away from a shot at the converted gold. Both fighters will look to keep this fight standing, each strongly believing that they can out-strike the other.

The rest of the main card

In the heavyweight division, Tai Tuivasa (10-2) will look to end his two losing streak, against Sergey Spivak (9-1). Spivak, on the other hand, will be looking to get his first win in UFC on his second attempt.

In the Welterweight division, Luke Jumeau (13-4) will face Dhiego Lima (14-7). Jumeau currently holds a record of 3-1 in the UFC, whereas Lima is currently 2-2 during his second UFC run.

Finally, after Holly Holm (12-5) was forced to pull out of her rematch with Raquel Pennington (10-7) because of an injury. Tuesday night contender contract winner Yorgan De Castro (5-0) will make his debut in the UFC heavyweight division, against Mark Hunt’s (13-14-1) teammate Justin Tafa (3-0).
