For the second time in 12 months UFC superstar, Conor McGregor, is being investigated amidst rape allegations.
Irish media released the story of a famous Irish sports star being accused of sexual assault as Irish law restricts the name of a suspect being printed until there is a conviction.
The First Allegation Against Conor McGregor
The initial allegation occurred in December of 2018 and followed with the arrest of Conor McGregor in January. He was questioned by authorities and released as Irish law enforcement continued their investigation.
No formal charges were laid at the time but this is standard practice in Ireland following an initial interview.
It is important to note that while this investigation is ongoing Conor McGregor is yet to be charged or convicted of these rape allegations at the time of writing.
In Ireland, media are held by strict laws in regards to reporting ongoing investigations. The ability of The New York Times to openly use Conor McGregor’s name in these claims without any legal backlash is something we should take note of.
The Second Allegation Against Conor McGregor
The second and most recent rape allegation supposedly occurred outside a Dublin pub last week. The allegation surrounds a woman in her 20’s being sexually assaulted in a vehicle parked outside of the venue.
Conor McGregor has yet to be interviewed by authorities about the incident and has not been formally charged.
These are still accusations.
In a statement to The New York Times a publicist representing Conor Mcgregor said, “Conor McGregor is frequently the subject of rumors. He emphatically denies any report accusing him of sexual assault.”
