In an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Bay Area that will air later today Steve Kerr stated “Its unlikely that he is going to play this year” The he in this quote is five-time NBA Allstar Klay Thompson. Thompson suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during last year’s NBA Finals.
The sentiment around the league was that Klay Thompson could come back after the Allstar break but Kerr is not as optimistic. Kerr would later add
“You have to look at it realistically. I had an ACL [tear] in college, and I missed a whole season. Generally, an ACL for a basketball player is a full-year recovery, and if it’s a full year for Klay, that puts them out for the season.”
If this holds true the Warriors chances of a deep playoff run are severely damaged considering Thompson is the team’s best two-player and one of the league’s best shooters of all time.
Thompson averaged 21.5 points a game last year and was second-team all defense.
