October 23rd, 2019 – The Pittsburgh Pirates and team president Frank Coonelly have mutually agreed to part ways.

In a statement, Owner Bob Nutting remarked: “I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for Frank… Frank and I both agreed that it was clear a change in the day-to-day leadership of the Club is needed.”

Coonelly, in his outgoing statement, had to say: “The second half of our season was disappointing… Results matter and our results simply were not acceptable. It was clear that change was necessary.”

Coonelly joined the team in September 2007 to help the organization’s rebuilding efforts. Along with general manager Neal Huntington and head coach Clint Hurdle, he provided the team with a stretch of three postseason appearances between 2013 to 2015.

Coonelly went on to thank the organization and the fans of the team for their support during his 12-year stay at his position.

Lastly, Bob Nutting announced that the new President will be named next Monday, October 28th.
