The Browns stepped on the field at First Energy stadium expecting to win. They did their job. The Browns beat down the Dolphins for their third straight win. This is how you handle your business if you want to be a great team. They came out with the gas pedal down and kept it down for most of the game. Let’s get into another Browns’ win.
The Chubb/Hunt Backfield
No team in the NFL can boast what the Browns have in the offensive backfield, and it was on full display against the Dolphins. Freddie Kitchens used both backs to pound at the Dolphins front all game long.
Chubb led the way once again with 21 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown. He also added three catches for 58 more yards, totaling 162 from scrimmage on the day. Hunt finished off the day with eight carries for 37 yards and a touchdown and added two catches for nine more yards.
These numbers seem to be the norm right now for this backfield. The two dynamic talents have combined to average 185 yards per game from scrimmage since Hunt returned three games ago. They have both conceded parts of their game to accommodate the other, and it has shown. Freddie Kitchens and his staff have a luxury that is not found anywhere else, and they need to continue to exploit for as long as possible.
Baker the Touchdown Maker
Baker Mayfield was back for one game. Mayfield was aggressive and accurate for most of the day. He still had a few dangerous throws, but that is part of what you get when Baker is being Baker. He finally threw for over 300 yards again (first time since Baltimore) along with three touchdowns. Baker was on point and kept the team moving even with a short lull in the third quarter. If he can match what he has done over the last four games for the Browns over the next five, he will give them a chance in each and every one.
If you haven’t heard Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. are the bestest of buddies and these two besties finally put on a show yesterday. Miami Dolphins or not when you can combine for 232 yeards on 16 catches totaling three touchdowns. Those are the numbers the browns have been waiting to see from this tandem. It looks like the two wideouts are finally having some fun out there.
While not the perfect game overall, the Browns handled the Dolphins like they should if they want to be a playoff team. That is an excellent sign of growth from this young football team. The confidence is starting to show, and the players are having fun again. The mistakes have been kept to a minimum. If the browns can continue this play, they can beat any team in the NFL. They will need to if they want a shot at the playoffs.
On to Pittsburgh
The Browns will take on the Steelers at 1:00 PM in Heinz Field next Sunday.
