There was no guaranteed victory for the Steelers heading into Cincinnati. The Bengals were hungry for their first win and the Steelers were playing with a depleted offense without James Conner, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Maurkice Pouncey.
Down 7-3 at the half, Mike Tomlin decided to give Mason Rudolph another chance to turn the game around. After going three-and-out, Tomlin finally made the decision to send out rookie Devlin Hodges to try and win them the game.
In his first drive, Hodges threw a 74-yard touchdown to James Washington to put them up 10-7. This was the spark that the Steelers needed.
The Steelers relied heavily on rookie Benny Snell to control the clock gaining 98 yards on the ground. James Washington turned an impressive grab into a more impressive run for the Steelers only touchdown of the game.
The defense continued to impress as they committed four team-sacks, and recovered two fumbles. Devin Bush forced one on a Tyler Boyd catch and run. The other was by forced by Bud Dupree, who stripped Ryan Finley on the last Bengals drive, sealing the win.
The starter for Week 13 should be Devlin Hodges. Tomlin should put his confidence in him moving forward in pursuit of the playoffs.
Hodges got his first win back in Week three when Rudolph was out with a concussion. Now with two wins under his belt, he’ll look for another next week at home against Cleveland.
Both teams will look to battle it out without Myles Garrett and Mason Rudolph, who were involved in a scuffle at the end of their last meeting.
