The University of Houston Cougars played the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the chilly Chapman Stadium in Tulsa. Both teams were coming in with rather low expectations, as they both had 3-7 records going into this game. Despite them both having dismal records, The UH Cougars pulled away with a decisive W.
While the Coogs received the ball first, a poorly timed fumble by Kyle Porter gave Tulsa the ball in the red zone. The Golden Hurricane quickly took advantage and scored a quick touchdown. End of First Quarter: 7-0 Tulsa.
The Coogs quickly responded though. Clayton Tune quickly ran the ball in to the end zone for a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Tulsa looked to quickly respond to the equalizer, but Zach Smith overthrew the ball, and Gervarrius Owens was able to intercept the ball, but the Coogs weren’t able to score. Zach Smith threw a poor pass to Keenen Johnson, as Damrion Williams quickly intercepted the ball and brought it home for a #PickSix. End of Second Quarter: 14-7 Houston.
The third quarter quickly got underway. Even though it was pretty uneventful, the Coogs were able to boot in a field goal. It wasn’t until towards the end of the quarter when Zach Smith threw a 62 yard pass to Keylon Stokes to put the ball at the UH 36 yard line. End of Third Quarter: 17-7 Houston
As soon as the Fourth Quarter started, the Golden Hurricane quickly ran the ball in to make the game 17-14. The Coogs answered quickly, as Marquez Stevenson returned a kickoff for a 98 yard touchdown. Final score: 24-17 Houston Cougars. #CoogsWin
