The Los Angeles Dodgers are already in the position to make another postseason in 2020. They will have all of their key players back. In addition, every offseason, the Dodgers are always contenders to land a big-name free agent. This offseason, they have been rumored to be interested in players like Josh Donaldson, Stephen Strasburg, Gerrit Cole, and Anthony Rendon.

What are the Dodgers’ biggest needs? Who should they target this winter?

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Team Needs

The Dodgers are one of the most complete teams in Major League Baseball. They don’t have any glaring needs. However, the Dodgers roster did not show up in the postseason. They could use some minor adjustments. The Dodgers could bolster their relief pitching, which did not play well against the Washington Nationals in the NLDS. Also, the Dodgers could use another starting pitcher, in case Hyun-Jin Ryu and/or Rich Hill sign with another team. The Dodgers are fine at batting, but players such as NL MVP Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager must play better in the postseason.

Free Agency Targets

The Dodgers’ top priority is signing a starting pitcher who can perform in the postseason. They need insurance on that end due to Clayton Kershaw‘s documented struggles. Their number one target should be Strasburg. His postseason performance was one for the ages. He started in five games and finished with a 1.98 ERA. Batters posted only a .211 average against him. Strasburg’s pitching led the way to a title for the Nationals. Cole is another name the Dodgers should pursue. Overall, his postseason numbers were phenomenal (4-1. 1.98 ERA. 1.72 BAA). Along with a starting pitcher, the Dodgers should be in the market for a shortstop. Rumors have been swirling about possibly trading Corey Saeger. In return, the Dodgers must acquire a top tier player to replace him. They could pursue Francisco Lindor, who’s currently in a contract dispute with the Cleveland Indians.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be major players this winter. They already have what it takes to make another run at the World Series. They are just one or two moves away from capturing the elusive title.
