The North Carolina Tar Heels were on upset watch before their matchup against the Michigan Wolverines even started. Fans of both teams new this semi-final matchup would be a fun game to watch, and some people also predicted that Michigan would walk away with the upset. The Michigan Wolverines would hand the Tarheels their first loss of the season beating them 73-64. This upset, one of many that have occurred during the month of November, where a top team being upset by an unranked team.

The Wolverines Deadly From Three

When looking at the box score, the stat that stands out is the three-point percentage for both teams. UNC was 15% from beyond the arc, while Michigan was 42%. Michigan was able to hit the three at will during the second half of the game. For UNC, their brightest spot on the team was as expected, Cole Anthony. Anthony scored 22 points on the game, while the only player who came second on the scoring was Garrison Brooks with 13 points. As for Michigan, their most elegant star of the match was Forward, Eli Brooks. Brooks scored 24 points on the game, and he was looking outstanding from the three. Center John Teske was also impressive in the paint, gathering eight rebounds and ten points on the game.

The Heels were too cold to comeback

Through the second half, the Heels looked sluggish and sloppy with the ball. They had trouble making shots, and the inexperience on the team showed. The Wolverines, on the other hand, looked hot, and they looked like they deserve to be a ranked team. There was one period where they had a 19-0 run on UNC and led by 24. The Tarheels were able to bring the game within eight at one point, but ultimately they could not slow down the hot Tarheels.

The Wolverines will play either Oregon or Gonzaga on Friday. Needless to say, a 6-0 start is exactly what Michigan’s new coach Juwan Howard wanted.
