Waiver Wire Pick-Ups

Nazem Kadri, Colorado Avalanche

Am I biased against Nazem Kadri? 100%. Do I miss Nazem Kadri? Also yes. Kadri has put up solid numbers on one of the most dynamic teams in the league. In Mikko Rantanen’s return, where Rantanen was able to put up 4 points, Kadri had 2 goals. Kadri will center the 2nd line, against teams that will desperately try to stop Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen on the 1st line. He’s is expected to get PP1 time as well, alongside MacKinnon and Rantanen, as well as rookie phenom Cale Makar. Kadri can provide some hits as well, but it seems he’ll be great mostly for his offensive production. If he’s still available in your league, I suggest taking a look at him, at least for the short-term.

Zdeno Chara, Boston Bruins

Zdeno Chara is 42 years old right now, so I don’t blame anyone for being cautious about him. The thing is, Big Z is still playing on the Bruins’ top pairing. Chara is still a productive fantasy option, he does well offensively for a defenseman, and he puts up more defensive stats, such as blocks and hits. The one knock he may have is his lack of PP time. If Chara is available in your league, and you have an underperforming defenseman, it’s worth taking a look at him.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Ottawa Senators

I’m not sure how many times I’ll be allowed to put down Jean-Gabriel Pageau in this section. It’s been clear from the start that Pageau’s hot streak won’t continue forever. Still, Pageau is still someone you should keep an eye on, especially as he plays on the Senators’ top line. Be cautious around him, but at the very least keep him on watch.
