After back to back disappointing losses, Atlanta finally got a win. With four wins on the season, Dan Quinn’s job is still as good as gone. However, a win is a win, especially over a rival. The defense was amazing once again, taking advantage of Kyle Allen all day.
The offense was scorching hot, putting up 40 points. Despite losing a couple of starters for the rest of the season, the Falcons still had a very good day. A legend honored, a star reached a milestone, and a beast crossed the 1000 yard mark. As Atlanta celebrates, let’s recap what went down for the Falcons in Week 14.
The Falcons began the day by honoring a franchise legend. Roddy White was inducted into the Falcons Ring of Honor on Sunday. During the game, Matt Ryan further added to his Hall of Fame resume by joining the 50,000 passing yards club. That included a career-long pass on a 93-yard touchdown to WR Olamide Zaccheaus.
Then, Julio Jones confirmed he, in fact, is the owner of the Carolina Panthers and surpassed 1000 yards on the season. RB Devonta Freeman FINALLY ran a touchdown in, and Calvin Ridley added on another score to his incredible sophomore season. All in all, 40 points were put up, and Atlanta ran away with this one long before it was over.
Unfortunately, Calvin Ridley’s season is officially over. This means guys like Christian Blake and the previously mentioned Olamide Zaccheaus will see much more time. Breakout talent Russell Gage will fill in at number two alongside Julio Jones, which could cement himself a starting role next year. For the Falcons in Week 14, they finally showed an offensive performance worthy of this talent.
The once 32nd ranked defense in the NFL has finally come into form. Despite not playing as hot as they were a couple of weeks ago, the Falcons defense has been remarkably consistent. Turnovers, sacks, and constant punts have created great opportunities for the Falcons.
Much like their multi-sack and turnover fiesta three weeks ago, Atlanta wreaked havoc on Kyle Allen’s life. Damonte Kazee got two interceptions, bring him up to three on the season. Which, funnily enough, have all been against Carolina. They also sacked Allen five times, including another two sacks from disappointing Vic Beasley.
Speaking of which, Beasley has been playing very good to end this season. If the Falcons still plan to move on from him, his trade value must be skyrocketing. If not, he can be a massive resurgence that Atlanta will significantly need.
Cornerback Desmond Trufant also lost his season due to a broken forearm. Isiah Oliver, Breakout star Kendall Sheffield, and Blidi Wreh-Wilson will take over. Hopefully, we will also finally get to see some of Jordan Miller to end the season.
