Lakers vs Pacers Preview

Lakers vs Pacers Preview

The Lakers continue their lengthy road trip when they invade Bankers Life FieldHouse to take on the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have been one of the more overlooked teams throughout the season. They have maintained the 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and are still awaiting the return of their best player Victor Oladipo. As stated in my previous recap, guard play could be huge in this battle of two contenders.

Who Can Give the Lakers Problems?

Malcom Brogdon has been a workhorse for Indiana this season. He’s averaged 19 points on 47% shooting, 7 assists, while grabbing 5 boards a game. Brogdon has been well known for his defensive play, and his overall efficiency. Brogdon leads the Pacers with a 22.0 PER (Player Efficiency Rating). It will be interesting to see how the Lakers handle Brogdon, as well as Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis averages a double double with 18 PPG, and almost 14 rebounds per game.

For the Lakers to scrape up another W, the three point shooting has to improve. Sunday in Atlanta the Lakers shot a horrendous 16% (5-31) from three point range. That type of shooting will not get it done against teams that can keep up offensively with the lake show. Three point shooting was one of the concerns coming into the season for the Lakers. Look for Danny Green and KCP to get back on track in the three point department.

Armando’s Keys to a Lakers Win

Control the Glass:

The Pacers are middle of the pack when it comes to rebounding, they are currently ranked 20th in the NBA in that department. If the Lakers can dominate the glass, it will limit second shot opportunities, and allow the Lakers to get out and run the floor.

Get Three Point Shooting Back on Track:

The Lakers struggled in their previous game to knock down the three point ball. Being efficient from three point range is key in opening up the floor for drives to the cup from Anthony Davis and LeBron. Look for the Lakers (especially Danny Green) to get back on track in Indiana.

Finally, Win the Turnover Battle:

The Indiana Pacers are a very efficient offensive team, they rarely turn the ball over. As of late, the Lakers have struggled in the turnover department. The Lakers in their last game had more turnovers than fast break points (22 TO-18 FBP). The Pacers are a team that will make you pay for being careless with the basketball, so the Lakers need to make every possession count.
