Jimmy Butler had a contract with Jordan brand that was set to expire on September 30th, 2020. Per ESPN’s Nick DePaula, the two have mutually decided to part ways.
During his time with Jordan, Butler was wearing the annual Air Jordan signature model. He has also worn the Diamond Team, Supreme Elevation and Superfly models. In 2016, Jordan released a few T-shirts and hats with his logo.
Jimmy Butler is ending his deal 10 months early with Jordan and will pursue a multi-year contract with other brands. Recently, brands like New Balance and Puma have attempted to sign all-stars. Those two brands would certainly be very interested in the 4x All-Star.
Butler may also consider signing with Chinese brand Li-Ning, who have a signature shoe with Dwyane Wade. Wade just added Warriors All-Star D’Angelo Russell to the Way of Wade line. Since Butler and Wade played together in Chicago, they have become very close. Many believe one of the reasons Butler came to Miami was because of Wade’s influence.
Jimmy Butler will begin discussions immediately and may look to get a deal done by the All-Star break in early February.
Miami and Butler have had a great start to their first season together, including a 24-9 start. Butler and the Heat have commanded a top defense along with the #3 seed in the packed Eastern Conference.
Butler has averaged 20 points 6.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists along with 2.0 steals. The Heat forward will likely be an All-Star yet again and could lead the Heat far in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Butler pursues a signature shoe and signs with a smaller brand, or seeks security and signs with an established shoe brand.
