The greatest player in Heat franchise history will finally get his jersey retired. According to the Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman, the Miami Heat will honor Dwyane Wade on Saturday, February 22, where they will retire his jersey. Wade’s jersey retirement will take place against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wade, without a doubt, has absolutely changed this franchise forever. His legacy will finally be immortalized inside the place he accomplished so many feats. He joins fellow Heat greats such as Chris Bosh, Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O’Neal, and Tim Hardaway.
What Wade brought to this franchise can’t even be put to words. Three championships and countless memories make Wade South Florida’s most historic athlete.
Fellow teammate Chris Bosh was the last member of the Heat to get his jersey retired last season. Ticket prices absolutely skyrocketed once word was out and the cheapest tickets for this game begin at nearly 200 bucks. Personally, I had to purchase two tickets to see Wade’s Jersey Retirement because it truly is a once in a lifetime event to see South Florida’s most beloved athlete immortalized.
Wade deserves a statue and campaigns have also started to rename the portion of Biscayne Boulevard In front of the arena to Dwyane Wade Boulevard. This is courtesy of 790 The Ticket’s Brendan Tobin, who started #GiveDwyaneBiscayne.
All in all, it will be an incredible night to remember such an amazing career from South Florida’s most beloved athlete. Wade’s career might be over, but Miami-Wade county is forever.
