Every week I will bring you into Mission Control for the Houston Rockets. I recap the most recent games for your Rockets.
It was a light week as the Houston Rockets played only two-games last week. Even with the lack of games, there were some marquee match ups as the Rockets took care of business against two of the league-best.
Houston Rockets defeat the Denver Nuggets 130-108
The Rockets came into this game wanting to even up the season series at one game apiece. The team from Houston has owned this matchup over the years having won six in a row at home vs the Nuggets. Houston came out fast as they had balanced scoring throughout the quarter. Denver was content on double-teaming James Harden but other Rockets like Russell Westbrook and Danuel House made them pay. The Rockets took a 38-26 lead into the second quarter after Ben McLemore hit a three at the buzzer.
Hot shooting continued for the Rockets in the second. Houston’s lead ballooned to 17 points as House beat the buzzer again nailing a three right before the end of the second.
The beginning of the third quarter saw the Rockets hold onto there lead. The tide turned when the Nuggets went to there bench. Led by Malik Beasly and Monte Morris the Nuggets cut the lead down to three.
Westbrook and Harden took over in the fourth. The lead jumped from three points up to 28 as the Rockets went on to win 130-104.
James Harden 35 points
Nikola Jokic 21 points
Houston Rockets defeat Philadelphia 76ers 118-108
The new year started with a marquee matchup against the 76ers. Though the 76ers came in struggling they are still a tough opponent. The 76ers came out fast as the Rockets struggled from the field missing shots at the rim and wide-open 3-pointers. Houston started to chip away at the lead as Austin Rivers and later in the quarter, Harden began to get it going from outside. The Houston Rockets flipped the script and took a seven-point lead into the half.
The second half was all about Harden as he made floaters after floater in the lane. When they started to anticipate the drive Harden made his patent stepback 3-pointer. When the game was on the line Harden hit back to back dagger shots from downtown to finish of the 76ers 118-108. With the win, the Rockets moved to a season-high 13 games over .500. Just another ho-hum game for Harden as he finished with 44 points 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
James Harden 44 points
Ben Simmons 29 points
The Houston Rockets don’t play again until Wednesday when they play the Hawks before heading to Oklahoma City in Westbrook return to Oklahoma City. Saturday the Rockets head back home to face the Timberwolves in early tilt at 4 CT.
Currently tied for second in the Western Conference the Rockets finish last week at 24-11. Check back next week as I bring you another week in Mission Control for the Houston Rockets.
