The last name Diggs may sound familiar to you, Trevon Diggs’ older brother Stefon Diggs plays wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings. Trevon is set to make the leap from college cornerback of Alabama to an NFL cornerback.

Strengths

When you think of an athletic cornerback in the NFL, Diggs fits those descriptions. Diggs uses his length at the line of scrimmage to re-route the opponent’s wide receiver very well. He has a good habit to break back to the ball, his technique is very good as well. He also uses his length against contested catches, which is an advantage for a cornerback that is 6’2. When he plays the trail technique, he has good closing speed to get to the ball and the receiver.

Diggs’ production may not look the prettiest on paper, but when you see him on the field, his play proves it. He finished his college career with 17 pass breakups, four interceptions, and one of those interceptions went for a touchdown. He attacks the ball in the air with aggression and uses his big frame to do so.

What I think Diggs does the best, is the fact that rarely see him false step. When you do not false step, it puts you in a prime position to make a play on the ball or the receiver. This means his footwork is great, which helps him keep with really quick receivers.

Weaknesses

The biggest concern with Diggs that can be fixed is his lack of tackling. He can be very inconsistent with his tackling, which could make him a liability in the run game. He needs to meet up with some of his future coaches and work on some tackling technique with speed. He is 6’2, it should not be a problem to get him physically ready to tackle in the NFL.

Diggs broke his ankle in the 2018 college season, which made the safety Xavier McKinney move to cornerback. That is something scouts are gonna be looking for during the NFL Combine.

Trevon Diggs Projection

Trevon Diggs is one of the best cornerbacks in this upcoming class. He has the tools to help his team be successful immediately. My projection that Diggs will be a Top 20 pick in this year’s 2020 NFL Draft.
