Free Agency Quarterbacks The Patriots Could Go After

With Tom Brady possibly leaving in free agency this offseason the Patriots need to look for a potential starting quarterback. These are some of the potential free agency quarterbacks Patriots could go after.

Drew Brees

Drew Brees is a once in a draft class type of quarterback. This past season Brees had 27 touchdown passes, four interceptions, and 2,979 passing yards. He had this great season with only playing 11 games. When Brees was the starter, the Saints went 8 – 3 and looked great on the field. I do not believe he will be as good as he is with the Saints if he went to New England, but he will still be a great quarterback. Brees has 13 pro bowls, 1-time all-pro, and one time Super Bowl Champion. Brees won the AP Offensive Player of the year in 2008 and 2011. He would be a great veteran fit on the team and could fill the void if Brady leaves.

Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater was drafted in 2014 by the Vikings and had a season-ending injury. He was picked up by the Saints in 2018 and was the back-up quarterback behind Drew Brees. When Brees got hurt, Bridgewater stepped into the starting role. During his time as the starter, he threw nine touchdowns, two interceptions, and 1,384 passing yards. Bridgewater is a 28-year-old with a lot of potential in the NFL, and he also has one pro-bowl under his belt.

Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston was drafted in 2015 by the Buccaneers. He has been the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers from 2015 – 2019. This may be a time for the Buccaneers to move on from him because they haven’t had success with him. Last season Winston threw 33 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, and 5109 passing yards. Winston is a 25-year-old and has a lot of potential as a pocket passer, and he can move in the pocket decently. He has one pro-bowl, which is only his rookie season, so hopefully, he can get back to his pro bowl self.

Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota was drafted in 2015 by the TItans. Just like Winston. Mariota has been the starting quarterback for the Titans from 2015 – 2019. The Titans have not had a lot of success with Mariota which is the reason he got benched this season. In the games he played he threw seven touchdowns, two interceptions, and 1,203 passing yards. Mariota is only 26, so Bill Belichick can mold him into a star quarterback. He’s been average throughout his career, but with the right pieces and team, he could be a star.

Ryan Tannehill

The Dolphins drafted Ryan Tannehill in 2012. He was the starting quarterback from 2012 – 2018 until they decided to move on from him. Tannehill signed with the Titans as the backup, but overtime became the starter. He broke out this season throwing for 22 touchdowns, six interceptions, and 2,742 passing yards in just ten games. When Tannehill was the starter, the team went 7 – 3, which is better than when Mariota was the starter. He is near the older side at 31 but did just have a great season, so he is a potential pick up for the Patriots.
