The Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game takes place Thursday night in Hamilton, Ontario. With 40 of the top prospects from the Canadian Hockey League that are eligible for the 2020 NHL draft participating in the annual event. The CHL is comprised of teams from the Ontario Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, as well as from the Western Hockey League. The OHL has the most representation, with 17 players named to the rosters. Meanwhile, the WHL has 14 players selected, and the QMJHL nine.

Team White

The projected first overall pick for the 2020 NHL draft, Alexis Lafreniére (Rimouski Oceanic), is the featured player to watch for Team White. Additionly, Cole Perfetti (Saginaw Spirit), Connor Zary (Kamloops Blazers), Jaromir Pytlik (Soo Greyhounds) are other prominent forwards. Furthermore, Braden Schneider (Brandon Wheat Kings), Ryan O’Rourke (Soo Greyhounds) and Kaiden Guhle (Prince Albert Raiders) are stand-outs on defence. Dylan Garand (Kamloops Blazers) and Samuel Hlavaj (Sherbrooke Phoenix) are the netminders. The coaches for Team White are George Burnett (Guelph Storm) and Trevor Letowski (Windsor Spitfires).

Team Red

Likewise, the Team Red forwards to watch are Quinton Byfield (Sudbury Wolves), Marco Rossi (Ottawa 67’s), Antonio Stranges (London Knights), Dawson Mercer (Drummondville Voltigeurs) and Jack Quinn (Ottawa 67’s). The complete rosters for the game are available here.

I expect approximately half of the players selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL draft to be participants from this game. The game is being broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet and TVA Sports. Meanwhile the NHL Network is covering the game for viewers in the United States.
