2020 Ones to Watch: British Edition

What better way to start off the new year than to check out the stars of the future in the MMA world.

For the first article of this series, I’m going to be singling out the top British prospects that I see flourishing in 2020. These fighters are in no particular order, so let’s kick things off!

Mason Jones

Mason Jones

Nicknamed “The Dragon”, Welshman Jones has already made a name for himself in the lightweight division, with a record of 8-0 and 2 dominant performances in 2019, against Donovan Desmae and Aleksi Mantykivi. Jones showed a vast range of skills that make him a threat to anyone in the division. With his first fight of 2020 coming at Cage Warriors 113 on Friday, March 20th in London, Jones will be looking to show that dominance again and edge closer to being champion.

Adam Wilson

Adam Wilson

Bantamweight Adam Wilson has had a successful start to his MMA career, with a record of 4-0. Wilson has got the ability to pull out a win, with wins over Harry Ettridge and Mack Promanee. Wilson finished a convincing win in Round 2 after raining down the punches on Promanee. With Wilson’s next fight booked for March 7th in Manchester, it will be interesting to see if he can match that last dominant performance. Training out of Next Generation MMA Liverpool, Wilson will be hoping to make the impact of fellow local UFC fighter Darren Till.

Oban Elliott

Oban Elliott

BJJ blue belt Oban Elliott definitely knows his way to a finish with a record of 3-0, all 3 wins coming via finish. The Welshman has, so far, been too impatient to wait for a decision, taking it into his own hands, finishes via kimura, ground & pound, and a 1st Round rear-naked choke last time out against James Lilley. Oban went on to call out all the big names of the Welterweight division, training out of Shore MMA, is training with some serious talent, with the likes of UFC fighters Jack Shore and Jack Marshman amongst them. With Oban’s next fight coming on March 28, 2020, at the Cage Warriors Academy Wales event at Ebbw Vale, can Oban Elliott keep up his superb record and once again find a finish?

Fabian Edwards

Fabian Edwards

Nicknamed the “Assassin” for good reason, Fabian is one of the most dangerous British fighters outside of the UFC, where his brother Leon Edwards is currently making waves. After a split decision win last time out against Shipman, it has been stated that Edwards wants a middleweight fight against Britain’s current Bellator star, Michael Venom Page, a fight that all British fans will be eager to see I’m sure. With a current record of 9-0, Edwards is undoubtedly a talent and is somebody that will take some stopping in 2020 from achieving his goals.
