The month of January hasn’t been perfect for the San Jose Sharks but it has definitely been better. They have already doubled their win total from last month while amassing a respectable record of 4-3-1 in January.
SJ Sharks Scoring Increase
The month of December, on the other hand, was an atrocious one for the Sharks. As a team, they accumulated a record of 2-9-2 scoring 27 goals, 45 assists for 72 points in 13 games. That breaks down to the Sharks’ combined roster scoring roughly 5.54 points a game in December, which is not very good when a typical goal usually brings about three points (one goal plus one primary and one secondary assist).
So far in January, the Sharks have scored 20 goals, 35 assists for 55 points in eight games. This breaks down to about 6.88 points a game for the roster. That means in the month of January they are scoring on average 1.34 more points a game which is a 24.19% increase from last month!
The top point scorers leading the way for the Sharks in January with seven points are Evander Kane (five goals, two assists) and Erik Karlsson (one goal, six assists), followed by Brent Burns, Kevin Labanc, and Timo Meier with six points.
The season leader in goals is Kane (19), in assists is Karlsson (30), and in points is Logan Couture (36).
The AHL affiliate of the Sharks, the SJ Barracuda, also have shown a scoring increase in the month of January. The ‘Cuda scored 36 goals, 63 assists for 99 points in ten games in December. That means the ‘Cuda roster averaged 9.9 points a game. For January, so far they’ve scored 23 goals, 42 assists for 65 points in six games which averages to about 10.83 points a game. This shows the ‘Cuda are averaging .93 more a game in points which is a 9.39% increase in January!
The SJ Sharks’ next game is Sat, Jan 18 against the Vancouver Canucks at 7 PM/PT.
The SJ Barracuda’s next game is tonight Fri, Jan 17 against the Iowa Wild at 5 PM/PT.
