Dallas Mavericks: Back on Track

After a lull through the last six to eight games, the Dallas Mavericks have strung together four straight wins. The Dallas Mavericks recover from their recent struggle and get back on track. After a big win against the 76ers, the Mavericks have wins against the Warriors, Kings, and Trail Blazers.

Dallas Mavericks on Pace for 50+ Wins

Luka Doncic is in full MVP mode in Porzingis’ absence. Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell also have been tremendous with the extra minutes. Both have been efficient on the offensive end and rebounding well. Porzingis is looking to return this week after missing a few weeks.

Trade Speculation

The landscape of NBA trading has begun. Multiple trades have occurred, and the Mavericks are still nowhere to be found. Other than the two stars, Seth Curry, Maxi Kleber, and Dorian Finney-Smith should also be untouchables in trade talks. Dallas fans have cheered trades for Robert Covington, Andre Drummond, and the return of Dennis Smith Jr. Covington would bring Dallas another three and D talent, Drummond would provide more star talent to the roster, and Dennis Smith Jr. would give credence to the fans. Reportedly, the Mavericks are in conversations with many teams about possible trades. Another interesting theory is the future of NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

He will become a free agent in the summer of 2021. If the Mavericks can save cap space and have some post-season success over the next two seasons, Dallas could become a very marketable location for Giannis to land. The Mavericks have two very talented stars with an arsenal of shooters to surround Antetokounmpo. If the Mavericks can not hit a home run in acquiring Giannis, then the Mavericks should look to obtain Bradley Beal or Bogdan Bogdanovich. This would provide the Mavericks with a consistent third option that would allow Porzingis to carry less of the load.

All in all, the Mavericks have a very solid team at the moment. Dallas has an elite coach, a historically good offense, and an MVP caliber leader. They should continue to play with pace and shoot as much as they can. Without any trades at all, the Mavericks should have home-court advantage, at least through the first round of the playoffs. The chemistry is excellent, but one more addition to the team would push them to the next level.

The Dallas Mavericks will have a test on Tuesday night against the LA Clippers. Tip-off will be at 8:30 PM (EST)
