Thunder vs Magic Breakdown
After a huge come back win Monday night against the Houston Rockets the Oklahoma City Thunder are on the road again tonight. This time they face the Orlando Magic. Head to Head the Thunder have a four game winning streak going against the Magic. Here is how the Thunder vs Magic breakdown.
Both teams come into this matchup six and four in the last ten games. Both teams are hot and have been really playing great basketball. So this matchup is so intriguing.
Banged up Big Men
However the Thunder are going into this matchup banged up. More specifically OKC has both big men Nerlens Noel and Steven Adams not 100 percent. Both are game time decisions tonight. If one or both can not go for the Thunder this will become a very difficult game to win.
Orlando Magics size will present a big problem for the Thunder. Without Noel and Adams the Magic big men Nikola Vučević and Mo Bamba will give them fits. These two 7 footer’s will reek havoc inside for the Thunder defense. So it’s critical that Adams and Noel plays on Wednesday.
Thunder Roster move
The Thunder does have a way to combat the big men though. Yesterday the Thunder did make a roster move yesterday
Justin Patton may get the start Wednesday night. He has very little experience at the NBA level. However the G league is a different story. Patton averages 12.1 points and 8 rebounds per game. Justin provides much size and rim protection for the OKC front court .
The Oklahoma City Thunder lineup may look funky tonight. However I do see the Thunder going with their typical three guard lineup of Chris Paul and Shai Gilgious Alexander. However because Terrance Ferguson is out once again for personal reason Lu Dort will probably get the start. Much like he did against the Rockets. I also believe Dino Gallinari and Mike Muscula. Depending on how well Mike does Justin Patton could see significant minutes. Usually Mike gets in foul trouble and has a short lease, but we shall see.
Keys for the Win
The Thunder need to get off to a hot start. Unfortunately they might not have Steven Adams to help jump start the offense. Someone needs to step up.
The guards especially Hamidou Diallo need to control the offense. As well as not turning the ball over. Along with not turning the ball over the Thunder need to remember to keep the ball moving and not get stagnant offensively. Danio Gallinari can help stretch out the floor because he can hit the three ball from anywhere. He is a crucial component for the Thunder to win this game
Well I think the second unit of the Thunder with Hamidou Diallo and Darius Bazley will be big in this game. Also the big matchup really is how the Thunder will stop the inside presence of Mo Bamba and Nikola Vučević. I think Billy will put Darius Bazley on Nikola Vučević. The Dino Gallinari and Bazley combo will have the tough task. Nikola Vučević has the ability to hit the outside shot and go inside. So Billy Donovan has to find someone who can defend him and keep him at Bay.
OKC perimeter Defense will have to be on point as well. The Orlando Magics gaurds are really dynamic. Markelle Fultz has figured things out and has been outstanding this year. Evan Fournier has also been great offensively. Especially from behind the arch. He can really let it fly and shoots the three ball at a 41 percent clip.
Last key as always is rebounds. Without Adams or Noel this team needs to get to those 50/50 balls. Limit the Magic to one and done possessions. Then the Thunder need to move the ball into the offensive end and run their half court sets. Get the offensive rebounds and repeat. These are the keys for the W.
If the Thunder stick to the Billy Donovan plan. That is they do not turn the ball over, rebound, defense, and ball movement. Then I think the Thunder will win this game
