Toronto Maple Leafs February Outlook

The February schedule for the Toronto Maple Leafs has some very important games against divisional rivals. These games could have a serious impact on the Maple Leafs chances of making the playoffs. The Maple Leafs have eight home games, and seven road games in February. They will also play in two sets of back to back games. Here is a break down of their February schedule.

First Half

The Maple Leafs first game of the month will be at home on February 1st against the Ottawa Senators. Games between these two teams in the Battle of Ontario are always entertaining. On February 3rd the Maple Leafs will host the Florida Panthers in a crucial divisional game. The Panthers are currently sitting in 3rd place in the Atlantic Division and are two points ahead of the Maple Leafs. The Panthers also have one game in hand, so this game is very important. Next up for the Maple Leafs will be a road game on February 5th in New York against the Rangers. The Rangers beat the Maple Leafs 5-4 in overtime the last time they met back in December. The Maple Leafs will need to be better this time with playoff hopes on the line.

On February 7th the Maple Leafs will host the Anaheim Ducks in the first game of a back to back. The second game of the back to back will be a road game in Montreal against the rival Canadiens. Just like the games against the Senators, these games against the Canadiens are always entertaining. The Maple Leafs will then have two days off before hosting the Arizona Coyotes on February 11th and then finish the first half of the month with a home game against the Dallas Stars on February 13th.

Second Half

The second half of the Maple Leafs February schedule will start the same way as the first half with a game against the Senators. The Maple Leafs will play the Senators on February 15th in Ottawa. It will be the first game of another back to back for the Maple Leafs. The second game of this back to back will also be on the road, in a game against the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo. This will be the fifth divisional game out of seven in the month of February. The Maple Leafs will then play a home and home series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The first game will be in Pittsburgh on February 18th and the second game will be played in Toronto on the 20th.

The Maple Leafs will remain at home to host the Carolina Hurricanes on February 22nd. That will be followed by two days off and a trip to Florida. This trip is the Father/Son trip with many of the players bringing their fathers with them. Although some of the players who make the trip to Florida might not even play a game there. February 24th is the Trade Deadline for the NHL and a couple Maple Leafs players could be headed to a new team.

The Maple Leafs will play the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 25th and the Florida Panthers on February 27th. Both games are huge divisional games that can make or break the Maple Leafs season. The last game of February for the Maple Leafs will be a home game against the Vancouver Canucks on February 29th.

Final Thoughts on February Schedule

The Maple Leafs are going to have to battle every game and treat every game as a must win. All the teams ahead of them in the standings will be trying to create distance while the teams behind them try to catch up. Every point matters and right now every game is a playoff game for the Maple Leafs.

It will be interesting to see what trades the Maple Leafs make at the deadline if they make any. I think many in Leafs Nation will be upset if management does nothing to fix the defense or backup goaltender position.
