With the departure of Tom Brady potentially happening in the near future. The Patriots may have to consider some quarterbacks they could trade for. This will breakdown the quarterbacks potential with the Patriots and how he did this season past season.

Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton finished the season by going 2 – 11 as the starting quarterback for the Bengals. Dalton is currently 32 years old and has been a mediocre quarterback basically his whole career. He threw 16 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and 3,494 passing yards. If you pair Dalton up with Belichick and a Patriots offense then he will not be great, but better. He has a contract worth $16,000,000 per year on average. This contract expires in 2021, which means if he does badly this season the Patriots can just let him go. Dalton is an experienced quarterback and is coming up on his 10th season in the NFL.

Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky did not have a good junior year because he failed to bring the Bears to the playoffs. Trubisky went 8 – 7 as the Bears starting quarterback and that was with a top defense in the NFL. He threw 17 touchdowns, ten interceptions, and 3138 passing yards. Trubisky’s contract is $7,258,109 on average per year. Trubisky becomes a free agent in 2021 which gives Belichick a year to shape the young quarterback into a top quarterback in the NFL. He is only 25 years old and going into his fourth season in the NFL.

Josh Rosen

Josh Rosen has not had a real start in the NFL since week six with the Dolphins. When he was the starter the Dolphins went 0 – 3. The upside to the Patriots trading for him is that he is cheap and young. Rosen is making $4,399,440 average per year with the Dolphins. Last season Rosen threw one touchdown, five interceptions, and 567 passing yards. Rosen has not had the best offenses since he has entered the NFL. He played with the Cardinals and Dolphins who have been rebuilding recently. If Rosen was given the opportunity with a good team he could possibly shine.

Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor had his last start with the Cleveland Browns in 2018 until Baker Mayfield took over. He backed up Philip Rivers all of this season and he did not play one snap at quarterback. He was a spectacular quarterback for the Bills throwing 51 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, and 8857 passing yards over three years. Taylor is a cheaper deal only being paid $5,500,000 average per year. He is not an old quarterback at 30 years old and still has a lot in the tank.

Gardner Minshew

Gardner Minshew was drafted this season but he is going to have to compete with Nick Foles. Foles got a huge contract, so I expect the Jaguars to stick with Foles for a while. This leaves Minshew on the possible trading block for the Patriots. Minshew had an amazing rookie season throwing 21 touchdowns, six interceptions, and 3271 passing yards. He is also another cheap quarterback at only making $677,904 average per year. Minshew is a free agent in 2023 which gives New England a lot of time to shape the young quarterback.
