In my last article, I mentioned some players who I thought were snubbed from the NHL All-Star Game this year. I am writing this a few days later than expected, but I felt like I should properly finish it off. So here are my picks for the snubs of the All-Star Game in the Western Conference.
Central Division
Cale Makar – Makar is a frontrunner for the Calder Memorial Trophy this season, as Rookie of the Year. I personally would have been a lot more interested in the events this year if Makar was there. Makar is second on his team for points with 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points for the Colorado Avalanche.
Kyle Connor – Connor has been one of Winnipeg’s most consistent players since he has entered the league and this season is no short of that. He has 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in 51 games.
Robin Lehner – The Swedish netminder has turned his career around in the last two years. He was spectacular for the New York Islanders last year and has been able to keep the Chicago Blackhawks competing in many of their games this year.
Pacific Division
Mark Stone – Stone is regarded as one of the best two-way players in the game today. He has been one of Vegas’ best players this year. He has emerged as a superstar in the NHL. In 52 games this year, he has 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points. A step back from last year’s totals, but he has still been fantastic.
J.T. Miller – Since being traded to the Vancouver Canucks, J.T. Miller has been spectacular. He has proven to be worth the first-round pick that was used to acquire him. Miller has been one of Vancouver’s best players. He is second on the team in scoring with 17 goals and 29 points for 46 points this season. He went from an average top-9 forward to becoming an elite first-line forward in the span of one off-season.
Closing Thoughts
I did not include any honourable mentions in this article due to two simple reasons. Reason #1 is I am not familiar enough with the Western Conference to name many players. Reason #2 is that I wanted to get this released before the All-Star Weekend, but I ran out of time. With that in mind, give me your picks of snubs for this year’s NHL All-Star Game.
