Jamal Adams is in the fourth year of his rookie contract, but the question is, “will he stay?”. The fairest answer to give is they are working on it. To provide comfort to Jets fans, an extension should be imminent. Adams wants to be a Jet long term because he already fell in love with the fans and the organization.
Jamal Adams deserves a deal
Jamal Adams has been solid every single season and has become one of the elite defensive backs in the NFL. Due to his excellence, he has become an icon on and off the field. Just this last season, Adams racked up 75 tackles with 61 being solo tackles. He has ten tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Furthermore, he also had a pick-six and seven pass defenses.
Adams’ rookie contract stands at an average of 5.5 million a year. With his stock value being second for strong safeties, he should be in the market of a significant deal. If the Jets decide to work a deal now, his value is about 12.9 million a year. This translates to a long term deal of six years at $77,168,922. So the total agreement, if it is done this offseason, would be seven years at 83,202,777.
The New York Jets adjusted salary cap is $212,976 875 due to the near 14 million in rollovers. After paying existing contracts, the Jets will have just over 56 million dollars to spend. There are a total of 31 free agents this offseason and there allowing most of them to walk. This will create even more room for essential extensions.
Jets fans are assured that this extension of Jamal Adams will be worked out before the start of the next season. He is worth every bit of the 13 million dollars a year.
