Kings Avoid Getting Clipped

On the 2nd night of a back to back, the Kings traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers. Los Angeles has the edge in the last decade of Kings vs Clippers matchup’s, going 31-5 vs the Kings over the last 10 years.

The Kings would make a franchise record 21 shots from 3 point land, bolstered by De’Aaron Fox, who had a career high in points.

Sacramento played energetic defense, had a sense of urgency and came out with the WIN in LaLa Land!

The Kings are 3-1 in their last 4 games! REJOICE!

1st Half Action – Kings vs Clippers

Bagley and Holmes would again miss this game due to injury. For the Clippers, Paul George who has missed the last 9 games, would be back in action against Sacramento. Kawhi Leonard would sit out this game with lower back stiffness, AKA ‘we can beat the Kings with just one superstar…’

The Kings shot well from deep in the first quarter, but Sacramento found themselves down early.

Montrezl Harrell was giving the Kings fits down-low, but what’s new? ‘Mr. Uh-Oh’ had two ‘And 1’s’ in the first quarter, to go along with 10 points.

Fox was feeling himself early, and often. He hit an 3 early in the 1st quarter, which was his first in his last 17 attempts.

The Kings were outscored in the paint in the 1st quarter, 18-6, but only trailed by 5, 33-28, at the end of the 1st quarter.

With 9:30 left in the 2nd quarter, the Kings took their first lead, 36-33, after back to back 3 pointers by Buddy Hield.

The Kings were able to go on a 24-7 run over a 6 minute span in the second quarter.

That was followed by a Sacramento 9-0 run, with 3:40 left in the half.

The Kings made 15 first half 3 pointers, 5 short of their franchise record for a game, 20.

The Kings would lead at halftime, 64-47. Fox scored 16 first half points.

2nd Half Action – Kings vs Clippers

Would the Kings be able to hold on to a double digit lead against the Leonard-less Clippers?

The Clippers would make a few runs, and get within striking distance of the Kings. Despite being outscored in the 3rd quarter, 24-21, the Kings would keep their foot on the gas and not relinquish their lead.

The Kings won the game comfortably, 124-103. The Kings are now 3-1 in their last 4 games, and 18-30 overall.

Individual Stats and Thoughts

Sacramento point guard play was impeccable!
Fox had a career high 34 points, on 3-4 shooting from 3 point range, 8 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks.

Cory Joseph came off the bench and shot the lights out! CoJo played 33 minutes, scored 16 points, on 4-9 shooting from deep. SCORCHING!!

Dedmon had a solid game as a starter. He scored 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks.

Buddy Hield had another good game coming off of the bench, in the 4 installment of his 6th man campaign.

Buddy played 26 minutes ( 1 more minute than starter Bogdanovich) had 19 points, on 7-14 shooting, 5-11 from 3, and added in 7 rebounds.

Team Stats and Thoughts

The Kings shot 50% from the field and 51% from 3 point range!

Sacramento held LA to 38% shooting from the field, and 41% from 3 point range.

The Kings won the rebounding battle, 56-53. As well as the assist category, 26-25.

The Kings only committed 12 turnovers, while forcing 15.

If the Kings want to continue to win games, and not lose by 20, they will have to play with the kind of consistency and urgency they showed in this win against Clippers.

Far too often the Kings play inconsistent, selfish, lazy basketball.

Consistency is KEY!

The Kings go back home to face the LA Lakers on Sunday.
