Tyson Nam will go head to head with New Zealand native Kai Kara-France on Feb 22. UFC Fight Night heads to Auckland and takes place in the Spark Arena. Headlining the event is lightweight challenger Paul Felder and The Hangman Dan Hooker.

Tyson Nam looks to rebound from a debut loss and pick up his first win under the promotion. He takes on a tough competitor in Kara-France. Kara-France is looking to get back to winning ways after suffering his first loss in the UFC.

Tyson Nam (18-10-1) has been in the game since 2006 with the dream of reaching the pinnacle of the sport. The dream of performing under the biggest martial arts organisation in the world. On September 21, that dream came true for Nam, as he made his official UFC debut in Mexico. Nam was thrown straight in at the deep end as he debuted v UFC veteran Sergio Pettis and took the loss v Unanimous Decision. Welcome to the UFC, Tyson Nam.

Kai Kara-France (20-8) has been nothing but impressive since joining the promotion. picking up wins against Mark De La Rosa, Raulian Paiva and Elias Garcia. Kara-France has shown his well-rounded skillset in previous bouts but more recently has hit a bump in the road and has been dethroned of an 8-fight winning streak. Brandon Moreno put an end to Kara-France’s winning ways at UFC 245.

Both competitors looking to get back on track after suffering recent losses. At 36-years-old, can Tyson Nam make a push for a title or does the youth of Kara-France help him through this matchup and push him up the rankings.

How is preparation going ahead of your second fight with the promotion on Feb 22?

Nam – “Preparation is going great. I’m doing all the things that I need to do to be well prepared come February 22nd.”

Your UFC debut saw you take on a very tough fight in Pettis. How important is it for you to kick off 2020 with a win v Kara-France and what can we expect to see from Tyson?

Nam – “My next fight against Kai is extremely important. Everyone knows that if you suffer 2 losses in a row you are up on the chopping block to getting your pink slip. My team and I are making adjustments to my game so not only will I be victorious but victorious in huge fashion.”

What does it mean to you to be competing under the UFC, you’ve had a lot of fights under your belt and does the grind make all your sacrifices worth it knowing you made it to the biggest stage?

Nam – “Fighting under the UFC was a dream come true for me. Everyone that chooses MMA as a career always wants to make it to the Super Bowl of MMA. So finally being here is nothing short of a miracle. All the hours, weeks, and years of training have been well worth it. Just to be able to say that I fought for the UFC is something that 99% of fighters can only dream of.”

How do you see the fight with Kara-France playing out, do you have any predictions and how do you view France as an opponent?

Nam – “Kai has a big right hand and I have a big right hand. Let’s meet in the middle and see who has the bigger right hand! It’s going to be a firefight that fans will not want to miss.”
