2020 NHL Draft: 3 Stars Of Week 19

This week’s top prospects for the 2020 NHL draft features a slick two-way centerman with elite vision and playmaking skills, along with two Ontario Hockey League players selected in the import draft that are turning heads with their exceptional play.

1. Mavrik Bourque

The Shawinigan Cataractes sit near the bottom of the Western Conference of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. However, this past week they went on a bit of a scoring rampage, with center Mavrik Bourque leading the way. Bourque factored in all seven goals the Cataractes managed, scoring twice and adding five helpers in a 7-4 triumph over the Halifax Mooseheads. His elite vision and remarkable hockey IQ were extremely evident in this phenomenal performance.

Cataractes would match their seven-goal effort in the next game as well, a 7-5
decision versus the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Bourque displayed the same superb
playmaking ability once again, adding three primary assists.

In the next game, the Cataractes were trounced 8-2 by the Rimouski Océanic. Bourque had one primary assist, which came on the powerplay, bringing his total to 11 points in three games. As a result of his scoring outburst, Bourque has climbed to fourth place in the QMJHL scoring race.

2. Jan Mysak

The Hamilton Bulldogs currently occupy seventh place in the Eastern Conference of the OHL. This past week they went 2-0-2, and Jan Mysak proved to be a critical factor in those games. He exploded for five points to begin the week, scoring three goals and two assists, all coming in the first period of a 9-4 pasting of the Niagara Ice Dogs.

Mysak failed to hit the scoresheet in the next contest, a 3-2 overtime loss at
the hands of the Oshawa Generals.

Bulldogs would bounce back and take the next game, a 3-1 victory over the
Windsor Spitfires. Mysak would provide the empty-net marker on the powerplay to
ensure the win.

In the
final contest of the week, Mysak added a pair of assists as the Bulldogs
dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the league-leading Ottawa 67’s.

For his four goals and four assists, Mysak earned the second star of the week.

3. Martin Chromiak

With their improved play of late, the Kingston Frontenacs are now challenging for a playoff spot in the OHL’s Eastern Conference. They have climbed to within one point of the Niagara Ice Dogs for the eighth position. Martin Chromiak is one of the players leading that charge.

In the third consecutive victory, a 4-3 edging of the Battalion, Chromiak provided the primary assist on the game-winning goal. Once again, the goal was a powerplay tally, giving Chromiak 20 points in 15 games since arriving from Slovakia.

Honourable Mentions

There are currently various tournaments taking place in Europe. Some of the standouts there have been Jake Sanderson for Team USA, Emil Heineman for Sweden, and Veeti Miettinen, Kasper Simontaival and Roni Hirvonen for Finland.

Daniil Guschin managed six points in three games for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in USHL action.

Jack Quinn and Marco Rossi both continued their remarkable seasons recording six points in a pair of games for the Ottawa 67’s.
