Brocklesby vs Lister for the Almighty Lightweight Title

Jonny Brocklesby (4-0) and Kieran Lister (5-0-1) are both undefeated English prospects who have been given the opportunity to become the next Almighty Fighting Championship lightweight champion, at Almighty Fighting Championship 16.

Kieran Lister

The Dungeon BJJ fighter, Kieran Lister, has made a name for himself recently, fighting for Bellator twice. Lister claimed one win and one draw during his Bellator tenure. His Bellator appearances both came in 2019, at Bellator Newcastle and Bellator Birmingham.

Lister claimed a first-round knockout victory during his Bellator debut, against David McLaughlin (2-2). He was, however, not quite as successful during his second Bellator appearance, only managing to secure a draw against Constantin Gnusariov (3-0-1).

Lister, driven by the disappointment after his draw, returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion against, Andy Nunn (0-13) in his last fight. A performance which earned him his shot at the Almighty Fighting Championship lightweight title.

Jonny Brocklesby

The Gorilla fight team member, Brocklesby, has earned his shot at the Almighty Fighting Championship lightweight title after finishing all four of his previous opponents.

Brocklesby has yet to need more than two rounds to finish his opponents, claiming two first-round knockouts and two second-round submissions.

Brocklesby has been given a huge opportunity to not just fight for the belt, but to also share the cage with a fighter, Lister, who has featured on, not one but two, Bellator cards. If Brocklesby does manage to claim the title and extend his run of stoppages, it would make a huge statement.

What to Expect at Almighty Fighting Championship 16

Lister is likely to go into the fight as the favourite as he has fought on the larger stage and against opponents with a better combined record. Although, this fight is by no means an easy fight.

The matchmaking by Almighty Fighting Championship has been perfect for this title fight. The two fighters seem to match up with each other very well, on paper anyway, and both fighters are also risking their undefeated records for the chance to claim the converted gold.

Whatever happens, this fight promises to be an exciting one. Both fighters come in with four finishes to their names. Brocklesby boasts a 100% finishing rate, whereas Lister has a 67% finishing rate.

Who will end up proving that they are in fact ‘Almighty’? Find out on February 22nd, at the Barnsley Metrodome.
