The Octagon makes its return to New Zealand this weekend, as top lightweights collide in firework matchups. While the main card offers a lot of exciting matchups, the UFC Auckland prelims have been stacked with talent enough to make it a tough fight for post-fight bonuses.
Here at Overtime Heroics MMA, we’ve decided to once again highlight the best fights of the night to give you the most entertainment possible.
Jake Matthews vs Emil Meek
First, we have Australian favourite Jake Matthews taking on Emil Meek in a welterweight bout. Meek is returning to the cage for the first time since 2018 and is currently on a two-fight skid. Matthews is currently on a one-win streak and is looking to build in a stacked welterweight division. This fight is going to be fireworks, as both fighters have power and fantastic striking.
Loma Lookboonmee vs Angela Hill
Moving to the strawweight division, we have Angela Hill making a quick return to face Loma Lookboonmee. Win or lose, Angela Hill brings excitement to the cage and this bout is no exception. Both fighters have excellent striking skills, so look for this bout to be a mostly stand-up affair. Hill is on a two-fight win streak and both by way of TKO, so fans can expect her to look for the finish.
Jalin Turner vs Joshua Culibao
Moving up to the stacked lightweight division we see Jalin Turner fighting Joshua Culibao. Culibao is currently undefeated, taking on Turner, who is currently 1-2 with the UFC, 8-5 overall. From this fight, fans can expect a good stand-up battle, and with top 155ers in the main, expect the lightweights to show up on the prelims.
Flyweights Collide in Key Division Matchup
Now we move on to what could be one of the best fights of the night. Kai Kara-France takes on Tyson Nam in what can only promise to be a fantastic matchup. New Zealand’s Kara-France is coming off of his first loss in the promotion and is looking to make a statement with this matchup. With a proven finisher like Nam across from him, fans are in for a treat.
Tyson Nam is coming off a loss to long-time division staple Sergio Pettis. Currently, the 125 division has never been hotter. With a new champion to be crowned in a few weeks, fighters at flyweight are putting on fantastic shows like never before and this is one you won’t want to miss!
