Tim Bradley: “Pacquiao… Fight Shawn Porter”

Fielding questions from media prior to Saturday’s Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury heavyweight mega-fight rematch in Las Vegas, ESPN commentator and former world champ Tim Bradley was asked about a variety of issues, including who should be the next opponent of future first ballot Hall of Famer, Manny Pacquiao.

“Pacquiao, if he’s gonna fight somebody, fight Shawn Porter…because, that’s a collision,” Bradley told FightHype.com. “That’s a fight. You know Shawn Porter ain’t running. So, he [Pacquiao] ain’t gotta go look for him. He’s gonna be right there in his grill, then it’s gonna be a war. I would love to see him fight Shawn Porter.”

The former three-time Pacquiao foe was asked again about Filipino icon by another news outlet and had a similar response.

“Pacquiao’s a legend,” Bradley told AB Boxing News. “Pacquiao has been here a long time. Can Pacquiao cherry pick and do whatever? Yeah, he can but if he wants to put on a great show and have a great fight which Pacquiao always wants to put on a show, why not fight a guy like Shawn Porter who is really humble just like he is. A guy who is workhorse just like he is. A guy who is not gonna run or go anywhere, he is gonna be right in your face all night long so you ain’t gotta look for him….I just think it’s a great compelling style where they just go head to head, it’s going to be explosive, these guys are gonna take each other out. Somebody is gonna go in that type of fight.”

Bradley also commented on the rumors of a possible Manny Pacquiao-Conor McGregor bout and seemed to feel that it was a distinct possibility.

“It could happen,” Bradley told FightHype. “Manny Pacquiao-McGregor, it could happen, yeah. Manny Pacquiao still has a great name in boxing, a warrior. Then, you got Conor McGregor, the hugest name in MMA. Yeah, the fight could happen.”

Officially, an opponent has yet to be named for the reigning WBA welterweight champ’s return bout, although members of Team Pacquiao have targeted a summer date for that return. Names rumored to be connected to a bout with the multi-division champ are Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Errol Spence, and Conor McGregor. Members of Team Pacquiao are also still holding out hope for a long-shot big-bucks rematch with archrival Floyd Mayweather, although prospects of revisiting that rivalry seem to be fading.

Pacquiao captured the full WBA welterweight title last July by beating Keith Thurman in a compelling split decision victory. That main stage pay-per-view win against the highly-regarded 147-pounder, who was Manny’s junior by ten years, capped off what some call a full career comeback for the 40-something fighting Senator. Prior to the Thurman win, he registered decisive victories over Adrien Broner and Lucas Matthysse following a controversial decision loss to Jeff Horn back in July of 2017.

Now, despite being 41-years-old, Pacquiao is universally ranked among the three best welterweights in the world and is in line for some very significant bouts in what should be the last chapter of his legendary career.
