Stamp Fairtex vs Janet Todd 2

Stamp Fairtex vs Janet Todd 2 will take place at ONE Championship: King of the Jungle, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, on February 28th.

Stamp Fairtex

Stamp Fairtex

Stamp, who only started training in Muay Thai under her father’s tutelage to protect herself from bullies, has had a meteoric rise to stardom. After taking, and winning, her first fight just one year after starting to train, she went onto win the ONE Super Series atomweight kickboxing world championship in her promotional debut. Stamp has since become a two-sport world champion, also adding the ONE Super Series Muay Thai atomweight title to her collection. It is amazing to believe that she achieved this feat before the age of 22.

Stamp has made her aim clear, stating that she wants to become a three-sport world champion by adding Angela Lee’s atomweight MMA world championship to her collection. Since she made her move into MMA, Stamp has gone 4-0, amassing victories against Rashi Shinde (2-2), Asha Roka (4-2), Bi Nguyen (5-5), and Puja Tomar (4-4).

When speaking to ONE Championship, Stamp was very clear about what she expected from this upcoming title matchup when speaking to ONE Championship, saying “I will win, but I think this fight will go the distance. I don’t think I can knock her out because I wasn’t able to do it before when we were wearing the small glove in Muay Thai”.

In order to not only become a three-sport world champion but also hold all three belts simultaneously, Stamp will have to overcome the challenge of Janet ‘JT’ Todd for a second time. Although, this fight is likely to be very different, which is a sentiment that Stamp herself agrees with.

Janet Todd

Janet Todd

Todd only found Muay Thai thanks to her Husband introducing her to it when she was in college, studying aerospace engineering. At the time, neither of them could have imagined how far Todd would go in the Muay Thai world.

Todd immediately fell in love with Muay Thai and chose violence over science. This choice proved to be a fruitful one, as Todd was lucky enough to train under Muay Thai legend, Sangtiennoi Sor Rungroj. Todd also found success before joining the ONE Championship roster, as she became a two-time Pan-American world champion.

Since joining ONE Championship Todd has continued to impress securing victories over; Chin Long Wang, Kai Ting Chuang, and Ekaterina Vandaryeva. That secured the American a shot at the Muay Thai world championship and now also the kickboxing world championship.

If Todd is to achieve her dream
of becoming a ONE Championship champion, she will have to manage to do what she
failed last time out and beat Stamp in Singapore.

Everybody had high expectations for this matchup leading into the fight and to everyone’s surprise, the fight itself absolutely blew those expectations out of the water. The five-round war turned out to be one of the most fiercely contested bouts of, not just 2019, but all time.

Todd showed her natural physicality, along with her technical ability, but she could not overcome Stamp’s game plan and strong clinch game. After the gruelling five-rounds, Stamp retained her title with a unanimous decision victory.

Stamp vs Todd: Two Likely Game-Plans

Going into the second matchup, which will be held at the same venue between the Thai phenom and the American technician just over a year after the first meeting, we can once again expect an action-packed, all-out, violent war. The main difference this time out being that this bout will take place under the ONE Super Series kickboxing ruleset.

Stamp still holds an advantage in the Thai clinch. When we combine her clinch dominance with her powerful knees and slicing elbows, there is no doubt that Stamp will want the fight to take place at close quarters. Stamp will look to lock up Todd. Land her powerful knees to the body, to sap the energy from Todd, and then cut the American open with her slicing elbows.

Whereas, Todd will look to utilize her powerful push kicks to keep her distance and whilst at a distance, will attempt to find a home for her patented head kick. The American will also try to time her nasty lead elbow to dissuade Stamp from entering close quarters. When Stamp does manage to successfully close the distance, Todd will be hoping that her boxing output can keep Stamp from initiating the clinch.

Stamp vs Todd 2 Expectations

Stamp will likely once again come into this fight as the favourite, thanks to her dominance in ONE Championship thus far, and her lifetime’s worth of experience. However, Todd will not be anywhere near as big an underdog as she was in the first fight. Todd not only impressed in the first fight, but in all of her bouts since.

Todd showed that Stamp was indeed very good but by no means
untouchable. This belief was reaffirmed in Stamp’s last Muay Thai title defence
against Alma Juniku, in which Stamp took home a controversial decision victory.

Although it has been proven that the Thai Phenom is not
untouchable, she has thus far proved to be unbeatable for her ONE Championship
competitors. Will Stamp remain the undefeated queen of the Jungle or will Todd
overcome the challenge and start a new reign?

The only way to find out is to watch the fight
at King of the Jungle on February 28th
