Will Fleury, who now sits at (7-2) in his professional career, made the walk to the octagon for the fifth time under Bellator in his backyard of Dublin, Ireland.
Fleury bounced back from his loss to Norbert Novenyi Jr. in September of 2019 in spectacular and convincing fashion, picking up a round one arm triangle choke (4:14).
The first 30 seconds of the bout was a feeling out process from both competitors, with Fleury slowly backing Moore up against the cage. Followed by a quick combination which had Moore in panic and shooting for the legs of the Irishman.
Fleury was inches away from securing a guillotine, but let go of the tight grip and slammed Moore into the canvas. The home crowd favourite showed the ability to transition from position to position to keep Moore grounded.
Eventually, Moore had got back to his feet. However, not for long. With the large size difference, Will easily secured a double leg and once again had Moore on the canvas. This was the beginning of the end, with Fleury winning every scramble and exchange. The arm triangle choke followed shortly after to a roar from the Dublin crowd.
I managed to get a word in with Fleury after his performance. See below what the Irishman had to say.
Interview with Will Fleury
After suffering a tough loss in front of the home crowd back at Bellator 227, How important was it to put things right this time round v Moore?
Fleury – “Yes, It was ridiculously important. I wanted to get out and show last September was not a true representation of my talents.”
Can you describe the feeling of fighting in your backyard, with the fans cheering and the atmosphere they bring and how does that help you inside the cage?
Fleury – “Fighting in front of a passionate Irish crowd touches the most primal sh*t in your soul. It’s an exhilarating feeling. I find it a little hard not too get too emotional and yeah it definitely helps if you harness it the right way.”
What’s next for Will Fleury? Are you looking to get back in there soon. Does the Bellator London card in May interest you at all?
Fleury – “Damn right it interests me, I’ve kicked the door of opportunity open. I’ve no intention of letting close again, I’ve got the skills just need another fight to demonstrate them.”
Any names on your mind for your next bout or are you a “take it as it comes“ type of guy and see what’s offered?
Fleury – “I’d love to fight Fabain Edwards but I’m told he’s already got a fight booked for now. So give me anyone else to whoop in the meantime and we can do that fight in Dublin when Bellator comes back.”
