Free Agency Outlook: Chicago Bears

Free Agency is just around the corner for the NFL and the Chicago Bears need to be ready. With a little over $24 million in cap space at the moment, it doesn’t seem likely that they will be able to go after any of the big-time free agents. But with a few more cap casualties still to come, that number should go up enough to get the two players that will help the Bears the most.

Jack Conklin

One of those players being Right Tackle Jack Conklin. The former Michigan State product is 6’6 308 pounds and has played for the Tennessee Titans where they drafted him eighth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. And he just so happens to play the position the Chicago Bears need the most at offensive tackle. And since he is very talented, good at his job and only 25 years old at a position of need, he’s a no brainer for our beloved Bears. However, there is a chance he could be franchised tagged. But it doesn’t seem likely because of the fact that they will probably have to use it on their quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Which should leave the door wide open for Ryan Pace to swoop in and fill the biggest need for Head Coach Matt Nagy.

Vonn Bell

The second player for the Chicago Bears to acquire in free agency should be Safety Vonn Bell. Ohio State has done a fantastic job of producing defensive backs into the NFL year after year, and Vonn Bell is just one more example of that. With his 345 tackles and seven forced fumbles in his New Orleans Saints career, he’s the perfect fit for the Chicago Bears secondary. It would also free up All-Pro safety Eddie Jackson to play at his more natural position. Where he can be a ball hawk again and hopefully put up numbers more like his 2018 season. A Safety combination of Eddie Jackson and Vonn Bell would be fun to see for Bears fans. All while giving opposing quarterbacks one more thing to fear, to go along with the rest of the monsters of the midway starring Akiem Hicks and Khalil Mack.

Free Agency

Free agency is an important time of year for all NFL franchises. It helps General Managers to fill their biggest needs of the team before the upcoming NFL Draft. That way, you can truly draft the best players available when it’s your turn to pick. It will more often than not lead to a healthier, longer-lasting franchise. And this is a very important offseason for General Manager Ryan Pace to prove that he has what it takes. It’s all about to start here on March 18th at 4 pm. For Pace, and all the Chicago Bear fans out there, let’s hope he gets it right this time.
