COVID-19 Shuts Down Sports

COVID-19 has caused a major stoppage of most sporting events from small leagues to the major ones. One of the big downsides to the cancellation of these games and matches are the people who work inside the stadiums and arenas across the globe.

This does not only include the players and owners but also many other jobs that people might not deem that important to the gameday operations. For example, there are people who keep the arena clean, board operators, the person selling the cotton candy, etc.

Cuban and Love Take Action

Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, made the decision to step up to the plate following the Mavericks versus Denver Nuggets game. He plans to come up with a program to pay the Dallas arena workers who will be without work due to the suspension of the NBA season. “I reached out,” stated Cuban, “to find out what it would cost to financially support people who aren’t going to be able to come to work.”

Similarly, Cavaliers star forward, Kevin Love has decided to follow suit by donating $100,000 to the Cavs support staff. “I hope that during this time of crisis, others will join me in supporting our communities,” posted Love on his Instagram calling for others to give and help in any way they can for those who may need it in a time like this.

Kudos to the gestures of Cuban and Love who are trying to lead by example and give support to those who help their arenas and team operate in a professional manner. We sometimes forget that there are more to professional teams than just the players and coaches themselves.

Thank you to those workers who aren’t always in the limelight! Here is to hoping that other players, owners and/or anyone who will heed to the advice of Kevin Love and pay it forward to those that may need it.
