Dak Prescott Gets the Franchise Tag

Per Adam Schefter, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have placed an exclusive franchise tag on quarterback, Dak Prescott

Prescott had a solid season in 2019, throwing for just under 5,000 along with 30 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. However, despite Prescott’s solid play, the Cowboys underperformed and went 8-8, missing the playoffs.

Heading into last season, there were reports Dak was looking to get 40M average annual value for the future. However, with Prescott and Jones still not able to agree on a long-term deal, the franchise tag will keep the quarterback in Dallas for at least one more year.

Placing the franchise tag on Prescott allows wide receiver Amari Cooper to test the free agency as well. Jerry Jones may want to keep him in Dallas to keep their quarterback happy. Either way, it will be very interesting to see what the Cowboys do during the upcoming free agency frenzy.
