At the start of what seems to be a busy free agent period, the Patriots have placed the franchise tag on offensive lineman Joe Thuney.

Not wasting any time, New England tagged the 27-year-old offensive guard before he could sign with anyone else. Joe Thuney has been the most reliable Patriots offensive linemen for the past four seasons, starting in all 64 games of his career.

Thuney was a highly sought after free agent that drew interest from a lot of NFL teams including the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns. Along with lineman Shaq Mason, this tag gives the Patriots a strong foundation in their offensive line.

But do the Patriots want to keep Thuney? The offensive guard will go from earning $800,000 in 2019 to earning $14.78 million in 2020. The question will be– do the Patriots want to keep Thuney, trade him to create cap space or even re-structure his contract to open up some doors for another signing?
