Anthony ‘PrettyBoy‘ Taylor (7-5-0) is a 30-year-old, American mixed martial artist, who currently fights out of Alameda, California. The ‘PrettyBoy’ competes under head coach Antonio McKee while fighting for a major organisation in Bellator. Taylor was first introduced to the world of MMA in 2013, where he trained as an amateur. Shortly after, Taylor made his amateur debut picking up his first win in competition. The amateur circuit saw Taylor go (3-7) inside the octagon, which was key to his current success. You see, the amateur circuit isn’t really about winning or losing. It’s about learning and growing, putting yourself in an uncomfortable position and gaining experience.
In 2012, Taylor made his professional debut by diving straight into the deep end while fighting for Bellator. Going (1-3) in his first four under Bellator saw the promotion move on. Taylor then gained experience elsewhere, competing on shows such as Bamma, CFC and Combate. After recent success and a four-fight winning streak, the growth and evolution of Taylor were clear to see. The hard work and long hours in the gym had paid off. On January 25th, 2020, Taylor made his second debut at Bellator v Chris Avila and secured a majority decision victory taking the American to five wins on the bounce.
How did you get into mixed martial arts and can you remember the first time you stepped into a gym and how you felt?
Taylor – “I got into MMA in 2013. I’ve had no clue what MMA was, a fellow named James Lee, hard man, found me working out at the gym. He pulled me to the side and said: “Hey, you seem dedicated, have you ever tried MMA before?” I said, “What’s that?” He then invited me to his gym a week later to try it out which I had no idea what I was doing or where the hell I was at! Lmao. But I felt like a caged beast waiting to be released, like Mike Tyson.”
What did you do as a job to make a living before turning professional and making a career in martial arts?
Taylor – “It’s funny, really funny! I was a Stripper! Lol”
Have you got any other hobbies outside Martial Arts, what do you like to do in your time off to take your mind away from fighting?
Taylor – “Well my hobbies besides MA include traveling the world. I work for Delta Airlines, so I get to take advantage of this beautiful opportunity to travel and see the world. I love anime, you know, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, One Piece, and I love eating food.”
If you never had found MMA and stepped into the gym for the first time, where do you think you’d be right now?
Taylor – “I’m not sure what I would have been doing, probably stripping in Vegas, who knows.”
Did you have any combat sport inspiration/heroes growing up, and if so, who and why?
Taylor – “I have no prior MMA or boxing experience, I just grew up watching Mike Tyson.”
What does it mean to you to be a fighter, a lot of fighters would look at this question differently?
Taylor – “I see this as an opportunity to express my personality of who I’m really am. I’m not a fighter but don’t get me wrong, I love to fight, but overall I’m an entertainer, which people from all over do enjoy watching. I live for this life.”
After fighting’s done, do you have any plans after that? Do you want to stay in the fight industry or step away?
Taylor – “Yeah, I’ll step away, I’ll probably head over to WWE and get into acting. Hell, I almost got into PORN!”
In 5 years’ time, where do you see yourself, and what’s the end goal, to retire look back and be happy with what you’ve achieved?
Taylor – “Man that’s a good one, I’ll be traveling around the world filming and living my good life with my beautiful wife.”
