For right now, entering the 2020 NFL season, head coach Bill Belichick is planning on short term possibilities. However, in reality, they are looking at a long term solution and the quarterback market right now is slim Pickens.
According to multiple sports betting sites, the quarterback the Patriots are hoping to land is Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. In fact, he’s not only favored to sign with the team, but he’s also favored to be starting quarterback in 2020.
24-year-old Watson finished another incredible season under head coach and General Manager Bill O’Brien. At this point in his contract, he is now eligible for an extension for the first time in his NFL career. Next season (2021) Watson is slated to hit the free agency market so this bit of news is interesting.
Earlier this week when DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, Patriots can expect the unexpected from Bill O’Brien.
Stidham makes sense in that he’s the only viable quarterback on New England’s roster right now. A mid-round pick out of Auburn last year, he impressed the Patriots’ brass big time in practice as a rookie. That’s some food for thought.
Among those also bandied about, Trevor Lawrence is an interesting figure. He’s already the consensus top player in the 2021 NFL Draft. Should New England decide to tank in 2020, the Clemson product makes a lot of sense.
